Honda Sets All-Time Record for Auto Production in Asia and China in First Six Months

Tokyo, Japan: Honda Motor Co., Ltd. announced a summary of automobile production, Japan domestic sales, and export results for the month of June and the first six months of 2010 including an all-time record for auto production in Asia and China for the first half of the calendar year.

June 2010
Production in Japan for the month of June 2010 experienced a year-on-year increase for the sixth consecutive month (since January 2010).

Production in regions outside of Japan experienced a year-on-year increase for the eighth consecutive month (since November 2009) including record production in Asia for the month of June.

Worldwide production experienced a year-on-year increase for the seventh consecutive month (since December 2009).

The First Half of Calendar Year 2010 (January – June)
Production in Japan for the first six months of 2010 experienced a year-on-year increase for the first time in three years (since the first six months of 2007).

Production in regions outside of Japan for the first six months of 2010 experienced a year-on-year increase for the first time in two years (since the first six months of 2008), including production in Asia and China achieved an all-time record for the first six months of 2010.

Worldwide production for the first six months of 2010 experienced a year-on-year increase for the first time in two years (since the first six months of 2008).

Japan Domestic Market Sales
June 2010
Total domestic sales for the month of June 2010 experienced a year-on-year increase for the 12th consecutive month (since July 2009).

New vehicle registrations experienced a year-on-year increase for the 15th consecutive month (since April 2009).

Sales of mini-vehicles experienced a year-on-year increase for the third consecutive month (since April 2010).

Vehicle registrations – excluding mini-vehicles
Fit was the industry’s second best-selling car among new vehicle registrations for the month of June 2010 with sales of 15,953 units. Step WGN was the industry’s sixth best selling car with sales of 7,601 units. Freed was the industry’s eighth best selling car with sales of 7,050 units.

Mini-vehicles – under 660cc
Life was the industry’s seventh best-selling car in the mini-vehicle category for the month of June 2010, with sales of 6,366 units. Zest was the industry’s tenth best-selling car with sales of 3,958 units.

The First Half of Calendar Year 2010 (January – June)
Total Japan domestic auto sales for the first six months of 2010 experienced a year-on-year increase for the first time in two years (since the first six months of 2008).

New vehicle registrations in the first six months of 2010 experienced a year-on-year increase for the first time in two years (since the first six months of 2008).

Sales of mini-vehicles in the first six months of 2010 experienced a year-on-year increase for the first time in four years (since the first six months of 2006).

Vehicle registrations – excluding mini-vehicles
Fit was the industry’s second best-selling car among new vehicle registrations for the first six months of 2010 with sales of 90,156 units. Step WGN was the industry’s sixth best-selling car with sales of 45,572 units. Freed was the industry’s eighth best-selling car with sales of 42,559 units.

Mini vehicles – under 660cc
Life was the industry’s seventh best-selling car in the mini-vehicle category for the first six months of 2010, with sales of 32,778 units. Zest was the industry’s tenth best-selling car with sales of 21,523 units.
